Evolution

by stormingdance (Lessa)   Dec 19, 2019

I drank from the bottle of your lies
Told myself that you'd always be here
That we would never cut our ties
Then I see your smile disappear

Told myself that, on you I could depend
And without thought or contemplation
I jump off the cliff to the deep end
Now I'm drowning in your hesitation

For I'm just an afterthought in your mind
Another stepping stone to stand upon
Another treasure to claim, then leave behind
I don't know how I will ever move on.

I drank from the bottle of your fears
Fortified my soul with the truth of your lies
Then I see your smile disappear
When I finally get a word in edgewise

Told myself that I'm strong on my own
And without thought or contemplation
I jump off the cliff into the unknown
Now I'm flying amidst my evolution

This is a superb portrayal of a Phoenix rising from the ashes of betrayal. The realisation that no matter what you have been through, no matter how much you have been deceived. That in the end you are much stronger than either of you thought and can move on much more successfully without them. A positive message to anyone whose ever been cruelly used. Milly x
