When I See You

by Weeping Willow   May 20, 2020

When I see you
The pain no longer resonates
Into the deepest parts of me
Instead it shocks me cold
Ice shooting through the epicenter
Of my chest and spidering out to
My limbs

Quick
Like a flash of light
It’s gone

I’m remembering myself
Coming back to who I am
Without you
And I like her
I like the vibrance I feel
I’m coming alive again
Nourishing my own roots
And it will bring fruit
I will walk with my head high
And my shoulders proud
I’m not worried about
Keeping you around
I lost this part of me
Within the desert of your acceptance
I found the water and I got out
I found the water and
I can see again
The town’s on the horizon and
I know where I’m going

I know where I’m going

Your verses read like lyrics to me, and the repetition of "I know where I'm going" brought about such a sense of peace. Even if we don't have a specific place or location in mind next, there's that ability to realize what is worth walking toward.

There's confidence, strength, and hope in this. Some great lines, especially "the desert of your acceptance" and the significance of finding the water and getting out. The town shows me there is a world beyond this person, and that they are no longer your lifeline. You can survive and move on and be alive and feel new things on your own, or sparked by someone new.

The whole idea and theme of remembering yourself was profound through each line. Well done!

Thank you so much for your kind words. I’m so happy it resonated with you and came across as I meant it to.
