Smouldering - Sonnet

by Walter   Sep 20, 2020

It seems love's a gamble and rarely wins
But when I first saw you, I had to fall
And I could not stop what was to begin
Every day I wanted you so much more

Nor did I resist my longing for you
Looked like both of us were so meant to be
Though fate had its way and already knew
That our love would end so tragically

Now I just wonder igniting our wick
From the spark made when we first were to touch
How did our hearts ever become so sick?
Is there such a thing as loving too much?

The saddest thing is we're neither to blame
Not often a spark will turn to a flame
