Unwanted Rose - Sonnet

by Walter   Jan 23, 2021

I water the rose, that I was to give
As it sits unwanted, in this glass jar
It now looks at me and asks to forgive
Like it's the reason, my heart has a scar

But its thorns could never, cause so much pain
Or to reach a wound, as deep as my heart
Although all my tears, still fall just like rain
And this why the rose lives, while we're apart

I'm not distracted, how gorgeous it looks
This was only ever, meant for your eyes
But it's ironic, with all that you took
It only blooms now, because our love dies

Though I'm not fooled and when my tears have dried
All I'll be left with, are thorns in the side
