Going Around In Circles

by Walter   Jul 31, 2021

A mountain exists, in front of my view
It's too far around, nor can I go through
The only way past, is if I will climb
But already I know, that this will take time

I'm eager to start and find the first track
It looks like it's steep, but I don't look back
Meandering around, I slowly ascend
The path never straight, through every bend

It's now that I pause and have a short rest
Don't want to burn out, and get all distressed
At first all I wanted, was to get through
But now feeling relaxed, enjoying the view

As I move on, I hear nature speak
This gives me strength, and not feeling weak
No longer a rush, to walk a mile
Enjoying the view and beginning to smile

I pause once again, now by a stream
The water so clear, in sunlight it gleams
The air is so fresh, I deeply inhale
Unlike down there, where it is all stale

I'm sad now to leave, but am near the top
When I reach there, it's here that I stop
I cannot believe, the grin on my face
That it was just chance, I found this place

Below there my city, is covered in cloud
With pollution and noise, that always is loud
And all of its problems, which never cease
While instantly here, I am at peace

The moral of this story, life moves too fast
Destinations determined, that we all walk past
The oasis it is, discovering to be found
If we would just stop...and not go around

Your words made me want to go on a hike, it'd be a perfect day for it too :)

In my state, there's a lot of neat trails and parks in the southern area that would probably fill me with wonder and awe, since we don't have mountain ranges nearby. I went to a state park a few years ago that was only a couple of hours of driving, and I still look back fondly on that time. It's become more touristy and crowded now, but there are some lesser-known gems that I hope to visit someday as I prefer the smaller, less-traveled areas. I actually read about a fire lookout tower that was recently restored and is only an hour drive away, and I plan to visit in the next few months.

A great message in this that more people should heed. I love that you write how you found this place by chance, one of those miraculous moments, and it provided that peace. We all need that sometimes in order to survive everyday life. Thanks for sharing this calm moment with us!

Thanks Poet and I hope you enjoyed that hike if you did end up going :)

I almost feel guilty staying indoors when it's such a beautiful day outside. And I'm also lucky there is still quite a bit of untouched nature around where I live. It sounds like there is so much to explore within a couple of hours near you too and we should consider ourselves lucky as I would never trade this to live in the city center. Working there is bad enough but I am happy to travel 2 hours a day coming back home!
