Answering Machine

by Baby Rainbow   Dec 22, 2021

I wish I could get an answering machine
for my most unwanted thoughts,
so I could at least get one chance
to sleep without you on my mind.

I used to be scared of being lonely,
waiting by the phone just to hear your voice,
because then I knew the darkness wouldn't be so bad.
Now loneliness ripples through my heart,
and I am scared of thinking of you at all.

I don't ever want to have someone
at the other end of the phone
just waiting for them to break my heart
with silence just like you have done.

If you listen to my insomnia's music
through my weeping eyes,
you will feel every blink of pain
that beats inside my heart.
