Sheila's Southern Summer

by Deana Seaman   Jan 31, 2022

Old mountain roads
Made of dirt and clay
Linger in quiet dreams
Of southern summer days

Old Brownie chased the butterflies
Then lay at mama's feet
Peaceful days of solitude
In the southern summer heat

Chicken and dumplings on the stove
Lilacs in the breeze
Oh how good the ice cream cone
A southern summer treat

Sweetness of a childhood
wading in the creek
I still return there often
In my southern summer dreams
