Angels On Their Upward Flight

by NightFlyer   Mar 6, 2022

Following a winding path up a hill
Through the doorway of an ancient church
In the dark interior, looking up to see a flock of spectral angels
Their wide eyes staring down from a Byzantine Cosmos
In a painted night sky, all knowing
Taking me on a cosmic flight to their realm, of forevermore and tranquility
Upward to the Eternity that ever was, beyond all time
From this church built from ancient stones
Baking beneath the hot sun of centuries
To their land of bliss, of echoing music
Astral winged beings
Flying to that realm, upward to purple heights of eons,
Circling in the misty rays of a great Sun
That burns high above the roofs and steeples of mankind,
The Cosmic Sun
From where we came, and to where we return.

Thanks Shayna! This is a poem inspired by an ancient church I discovered while walking in Nazareth in Israel many years ago. Saw the angels painted on the ceiling of the church.
