Afghanistan

Thinking back, I remember the faces
My enemy who claim to be my friend in all of the places
They bring to me their troubles and tears
I don't know what to do to battle those fears
My soldiers and I came here to help you live
And many of our last breaths we will give
We look at you through our armored glasses
Driving through all these mountain passes
Assaulted often with bomb and flame
Many of my boys will never be the same
They gave all and gave it proud
We gave what we could, what we were allowed
You tell us thank you, you wave goodbye
But if we see you again, one of us will die
You are not my family nor my friend
But my countries sacrifice they will send
Young men born and raised to fight
Looking to us, you see our might
When you count on our counties word and know
To hell alone you will go
We bury you in lies and false hope
Our care is for cameras, media scope
Your little girl killed we don't care,
And I still remember clearly her shiny black hair
Its all for the papers, and powerful men
Money is their God, our glory is then,
Evil corruption that has no end
People like pawns and our wills to bend
The story still sits here so long before now
My war is still going, shut it off how
It lingers within me and pains my heart
A life anew was hard to start
It will never be forgotten of all that went wrong
I choke up quite often if I hear the wrong song
Most enjoy the haunting melody as the sound sets in
Only because they have never been
The music means more with the words of what you know,
Appreciation for all to where we will go
Life has more flavor when you are strong enough to survive
Appreciation to know you are alive
