Sets Us Free (song)

by Kate   Jul 6, 2022

I’ve spent years here playing with my ashes,
Watching seasons pass and the grass regrow.
My extremities have lost all sense of warmth
For I dance with spirits buried six feet below.

I’ve sat here patiently waiting to feel you,
To hear your gentle name touch my skin.
When you finally join me on the other side
Will we still be too afraid to let the other in?

There’s only two regrets I carried to the grave:
That I never got to hear you say my name
Or, one day, share a last the same.

Will newfound shadows keep us strangers?
Will that destiny for us remain true?
But I hope, in death, we do not fear the love
‘Cause, my darling, what else is there to lose?
And I know that even in my parting,
My first choice will always be you.

Will we haunt this earth together, you and me,
When death finally sets us free?

Will I find you once your body’s cold?
Hopefully when you’re grayed and old.
Will I finally hold you in my grasp?
Will you love me like you loved me then?
Or learn to love me once again?
Will that first finally be our last?

I hope the shadows don’t keep us strangers.
Hopefully that destiny won’t remain true.
I hope that we no longer fear our love
‘Cause, my darling, there’s nothing left to lose.
And I know that even in my parting,
My first choice will always be you.

Will we haunt this earth together, you and me,
When death finally sets us free?
