At your Mercy

by BOB GALLO   Oct 14, 2022

Could whenever you are ready
give me a hug
as a heart,
not as a gender
wife, girlfriend, lover?

Could you sincerely
love me for who I am,
not for how I am trapped in these useless bodies
of games an stimulations,
or desert me, how trapped I am
in the assembly line of my worries,
with no ascension of thorns
to the blossoms
of bloodshot roses?
Could you see my beauty,
regardless of how life stains me,
Wrinkles me and trashes my flesh
to re-burnish my soul?

Could you love me for my soul,
not for how I paint my laughter
on the mask of mundane concerns?

Could you
guide me to where you are purest?

Could you help me to hold onto you
without losing my soul?
