My Children’s Cry

by Marcie Cruz-Monge   Nov 20, 2022

Thinking about the day,
That they took you two away.
Fear hit me as I opened the door,
I knew what they were there for.

As the fear filled my chest,
Maybe admitting would be best.
My drug test read positive,
No longer wanted to live.

Carrying you two to the car,
Left you two with an emotional scar.
Hearing your pleas and cries,
Tears that a mother normally dries.

Giving up the fight for you two,
It was the best thing to do.
My heart was filled with emptiness,
Filled with such heaviness.
