My Beacon

My Beacon

The sun is rising on a new day.
I have spent so long finding my way.

My search has taken me far and wide.
Where answers seem to often hide.

I thought I knew what I was looking for.
Peace in my mind, and little more.

So content, did I find myself,
That melancholy I pulled from a shelf .

Too long forgotten, was the beauty of life.
There in my darkness so to avoid the strife.

One truly may be lonely, while not be alone.

A light I then started to kindle.
For with which the darkness I could swindle.

The progress was slow, yet I stayed true.
My light kept growing, then I met you.

The beginning was fun as I learned who you are.
I learned to admire you from afar.

Often I hoped you would think of my name.
Nothing since has been the same.

If you should become lost, lonely, or confused,
Look for my beacon.

That's beautiful! I especially like how flawlessly you slipped in a word like melancholy and made it flow. Here's to 17 more years of more awesome poems.
