Worth Saving

I used to think I wasn’t worth saving,
A shipwreck soul in a storm of shame,
A cause long lost to the silent waves
No lighthouse calling, no one to blame.

But then you came like fire through frost,
A warmth I mistook for something divine.
You held me close then let me slip,
And I called it love like it was a sign.

I saw in you the map I craved,
Thought we were two threads meant to mend,
But you weren’t lost you were running,
Leaving ruin behind you again and again.

I thought I found salvation’s face,
But I was looking in a mirror all along.
You weren’t the one needing rescue
It was me, and I was strong.

Now I see: I was always worth saving,
Not for your love, not for your grace.
I was the one pulling myself from the wreck,
While you were just trying to escape.
