A Drowning Man

by BOB GALLO   Jul 10, 2025

Why do we trust
the tyranny of sizes,
the glittering fraud
of surface and measurement?

Why do we weigh
the soul
by what is seen,
as if truth must shine
to be believed,
as if the eye
knows more than the heart?

Lies swell
like oceans,
vast, applauded,
forever in motion.
But truth
he is a drowning man,
gasping, unseen,
beneath their waves.

Why must a man suffocate
in a sea of injustice,
while injustice floats,
buoyant and crowned,
on the still waters
of his truth?

Why do we trust
the tyranny of sizes,
the glittering fraud
of surface and measurement?
