Worth Suffering For

by Jay Colon   Aug 12, 2025

Sitting in the dark,
ruminating
In this cold hospital bed.

Death almost took me.

All because I loved you.
I just wanted you
out of my head.
I just wanted
the pain to stop.

But here I am,
still breathing,
still crying for you,
still alone.

So why did I do it?

If you love me,
You’d come back.
Or is it
If you love me,
You would have never left?

I’m stuck,
confused
between the two.

All I know now is
You couldn't care less.

You reached out
for a week and a half.
I’ve been reaching out
for three.

But the point isn’t
Who did more?
We both have faults.
We both have issues.
We’re human.

I’ve apologized
for my wrongs.
You apologized
for yours.

But like Bob Marley said,
“The truth is,
Everybody is going to hurt you.
You have to find
the one worth suffering for.”

And God help me
I thought that was you.
