Suburbia

by Cantchangeme   Jan 21, 2026

Greens lawns close shorn
Low sun shining down
Cars drift by lazy
Suburbia, edge of town

Laughter on the breeze
Sounds of life and play
A memory in a bottle
Most would like to stay

Sunday, school is closed
Car park empty, but for one
Inside, a distant whir
Not everyone is gone

Through the double doors
Following the cycling call
Down stairs dark and red
Below our assembly hall

There he sits and waits
Into my brain it’s seared
The day it all changed
And the first disappeared
