Someone told me recently to enjoy my ‘boring life’-
But I’d rather spend my time publishing books and having pool days with my family than traveling to the same places again every year.
Getting drunk alone on the couch or emailing my exes from two years ago just isn’t for me,
I suppose.
And so I fulfilled my plans of being surrounded by people who are kind to me-
There’s no coercion or guilt tripping over being with my friends.
Physical abuse and coercion just doesn’t exist here anymore;
Your hands are gentle and love isn’t based on how much you can control me,
Mutual respect became a foundation for the life I’m building,
I don’t miss the alternative.
The echoes of our laughter have healed the silence of mountains and abusive men that I once endured.
My life isn’t boring at all, it’s full.
I’ll take that over hollow any day.
