In life I made so many wrongs, Some haunt me still today. Those demons stalked my every step, As if I were their prey. I let my marriage fall apart, And let lust pull me down. Like a dog, to its vomit turns, I kept circling around. I left behind a broken home, A wreckage born of sin. Instead of running to the Lord, I chose to war within. The guilt, the pain, the crushing shame Ignited in my soul; With every drink I tried to drown Those burning, raging coals. But as the liquor freely flowed, Flames climbed ever higher, Scorching all those who stood too near, Like sparks from funeral pyres. At last the fire seemed to die, Choked out by poisoned drink. I thought I’d finally found relief, But that flask made me sink. I found myself just fighting hard To keep my head above. I gave up hope and slipped beneath— Till He reached down in love. He pulled me from the depths of death And breathed in me new life. He calmed the raging flood within And silenced all my strife. In pride, I tried to fight alone, My battle with the bottle; When all along I should have cried To Him who holds tomorrow. No matter where you are today, His mercy still is true. Repent, cry out, and turn to Him And watch what He can do.
