War Disguised As Love

by Golden AnGel Rhapsodist   Oct 23, 2026

This wasn't one mistake.
This was the same wound wearing different faces.

The same heartbreak
returning under different names.

Love was never what broke me.
False hope did.

The hope that this time
you would finally mean what you said.

The hope that this time
your actions would finally match your words.

The hope that this time
I would matter enough.

There comes a grief
that doesn't scream anymore.

It simply sits beside you

quietly......

That's the kind of pain
people rarely notice.

Not the pain that cries.
But pain that has accepted
That there's nothing left worth saying.

Long before my lips whispered goodbye,
My soul had already buried the future I once dreamed of.

The deepest endings make no sound at all.
They arrive quietly...

like winter stealing the last leaf from a lonely tree.

Like a candle that doesn't suddenly die,
But slowly surrenders to its own melting flame.

It begins when "I miss you"
remains trapped behind trembling lips,

Because hope has become
too expensive to keep.

It begins when tomorrow starts looking exactly
like every yesterday that already broke my heart.

Hope can survive long after happiness has died.
For two long years, I carried us
On shoulders already aching from the weight.

Every apology became another promise to endure.

Every promise became another reason
to stay.

Every tomorrow became another funeral
for the future.

I kept trying to resurrect.
The cruelest wounds are not always made
by betrayal.

Sometimes, they are made by watching someone
slowly stop choosing you..

While you never stopped choosing them.

You never saw the nights I cried so quietly
That even the walls never learned my name.
You never heard the prayers that ended
without answers.

You never noticed how each disappointment
took another small piece of the woman
I used to be.

Until one day.......

There was almost nothing left......

I stopped asking questions,
Not because I found the answers.

But because I no longer had the strength
to survive them.

I stopped explaining.....

Because love should never have to beg to be understood.

I stopped waiting.......

Because waiting had become another word
for slowly breaking.

People think that "I'm done."

The real ending arrives quietly..
when hope packs its bags,

when prayers become empty, when tears no longer fall.

because there is simply nothing left inside to cry.

I will not try, because when I try,

Inside I will die...

So difficult to share which part was best when it was incredible from start to finish. Amazing writing and so beautiful in its tragedy. Hope the healing starts soon if not already.

Thank you so much for such beautiful and heartfelt words.

Sometimes, poetry becomes a voice for the pain we struggle to explain, and "War Disguised as Love" carries emotions that are not always easy to put into words.

I truly appreciate you seeing the beauty beyond the tragedy.

May healing find its way to every heart that has ever mistaken pain for love.
