A Robot's Love

by Perfectly Unperfect   Aug 16, 2004

This poem is a favorite of mine. It is about not knowing how to love someone. It's about being scared to not only show how you feel, but to admit your feelings...even to yourself. It's about realizing how much you care for another after it's already too late. In summary, this poem is about a deep love, but also about a painful loss.
---------------------------------------------------------

I had no heart, no soul, no mind
A programmed machine, emotionally blind
I was created with one thought in your head
That I would be the perfect friend

You wanted one whom with you could talk
At the end of the day take a nice long walk
So I was made with sweat and blood
Long awaited the day you would turn me on

From that day forth you shared with me
Your points of view, the way you see
I was considered your best friend
You thought our friendship couldn't end

Then one day you came to me
And said more than friends you'd like to be
"I love you, Robot, I really do,
I hope you feel the same way too.

"Although you are just metal and steel
There's no way this love you do not feel."
I sat there for an hour it seemed
Thinking of this love and what it means

"Robot, why don't you answer me?!
Is it that you do not agree?"
"I'm sorry, but love I do not comprehend
All I know is how to be a friend."

You stared at me for a minute or so
Then said to me in a voice so low:
"How dare you call yourself a friend?
When you lead me on 'til the very end?

"I should've known it from the start,
You are nothing but hollow tin with no heart."
At this, you said nothing more
You stood in silence, walked to the door

Not once did you look back at me
I felt an awkward despondency
You were gone, and weren't coming back
My senses twitched, I sensed a lack

At this moment, I took a breath
And realized I had nothing left
Then something warm ran down my cheek
It was wet; I had a leak

But then I saw, it was no leak
The warmness from my eye that seeped:
It was a tear, emotion I could feel
But it couldn't be true; I was nothing but steel

Then I got up and ran after you
When I realized my love was true
When I got to the street, I looked around
But you were nowhere to be found

So I sat down and 'til this day
I sit in silence and waste away
I wonder why I couldn't see
How much I loved you, before you left me

If you shall ever hear my call
I say to you: You are my all
Until this day I love you still
Forevermore, I always will

My heart aches for the Robot, in this poem. I love how it puts such a sci-fi topic and relates it to every day relationships.
It reminds me of a Role Play character, of mine, in a way. I love this poem, so much.
    Keep writing!
