Perfect Strangers

by alfie   Aug 22, 2004

Five o'clock came and went,
As i waited by the door,
I thought you forgot me,
I cried my eyes red and sore.

When i was giving up,
Eventually you came,
But how many more nights,
Would i play this waiting game?

There's no point in coming,
Were the words spoken by you,
But does it not matter,
That i might have wanted to?

You stand on the doorstep,
Listening, then a cold stare,
As your eyes glaze over,
I know you don't really care.

You are meant to be there,
Every step of the way,
Supporting decisions,
Whatever the time of day.

We used to be so close,
But now you hardly know me,
It was you i went to,
We've both changed why can't you see?

Maybe i shut you out,
And i hardly let you in,
But you weren't interested,
From the beginning.

I know that I'm different,
But we both went through changes,
Who thought Father and Daughter,
Could become perfect strangers?
