Why can't you sleep?

by Katherine A Lee   Sep 9, 2004

Why can't you sleep?

I've heard you wake at night and weep

What happened to you?

I've never seen you so blue

Who hurt you?

Tell me soon so I can find peace and justice for you

Again you begin to cry

I can't do much but hug you and sigh

You, my closest friend

Who I would do anything for

Tell me why you can't sleep at night

And why you wake at night and weep

Tell me who hurt you

And I'll find peace and justice for you

Even if its too hard to say

Please don't go away

I'll keep you safe

Until I can get you away

Yet again, you begin to lose sign of hope

On the edge, I fear of getting too close

For the one who hurt you, is strong and unstoppable

You aren't the first one to fall at his hand

You will be the first one to fight and stand

Only this time, he won't catch you off guard

For you have me this time

Now he is in the yard

Coming towards us with a drunken rage in his eyes

Ready to strike for an unknown reason

For this monster is what we call “Hate”

His drunken mind makes him hillucinate

Which is why he didn't make it to the gate

And you, my friend

Live to see another day
