Prince Edgar's story -I

by Ş∂ņďħy∂   Sep 10, 2004

I hid behind the nightfall to forget her
But her ardent eye's smolder spread everywhere
Her one single glance had made my world silent
But dreams turned futile.

Flowers turned scentless and fruits turned savorless
Winter passed and the colorful spring returned
But the colors of my life remained the same
Withered, without her.

Her luscious, timid smile is my only light
Stranger she is, but yet so known to the soul
From the first moment, I am bound in her thoughts
Determined in love.

The quixotic prince continued his journey
He covered valleys and hills to find her source
Many kings offered their own daughters to him
But none enticed him.

He knocked on the doors of many palaces
Expecting one day he will meet his soul mate
Ignorant of fate's plans to surprise the naive
He faced one last door.

The King took him to a murky lacy room
The door opened with a screeching scary sound
A slit of light fell on a pale cold body
Freezing his heartbeats.

*..to be continued.

The Sapphic ode consists of quatrains, three 11-syllable lines, and a final 5-syllable line, unrhyming but with a strict metre.

Each stanza is composed of four lines. The first three lines, 11 syllables long, are called hendecasyllabics; the last line, only five syllables, has a name that seems designed to make up for its diminutive status: the adonic. (In addition to its strict syllable count, the stanza also has a very particular meter: in the first three lines, two trochees, followed by a dactyl, followed by two more trochees; in the last, one dactyl and one trochee.)- I haven't followed this.

Wow that was just plain mind-blowing. The descriptions were that of none that I've ever seen before..they were just plain beyond words. And to think you wrote all of this under so strict of a format...truly amazing and mind-blowing to me that is in itself
