Phoneys

Big fat liars is what they are
I don't even care what they say anymore
They do what they do
And say what they say
But it doesn't faze them one bit
Since they're mile away

I don't even know where to begin
So many issues got under my skin
Everyone said "Why do you persist?"
But when you've known someone for so long
Those regular friendship rules don't exist!

I tried so hard to keep in touch
Many letters turned into dust
But all I got in return
Was a slap in the face
And my lesson learned

I called, I called, all the time
So many nickels, so many dimes
But it was all just a waste
Too many calls, made in such haste

They said "Oh yea, I'll definitely write!"
They said "Don't worry, I'll write, alright!?!"
It was always just a load of crap
Because it's just what they say
And they'll never follow up with that

And so the story continues like this:
"I've been through that before,
So if you say you won't,
I won't consider it a dis!"

But they insisted that was a thing of the past
So as not to worry or have to ask
So I did as they said
While they were messing around with my head

Now here I stand
No letters in my mailbox many years later
With friends come and gone
And now I'm a hater.
