Solider 105

by ElegantlyWasted   Nov 18, 2004

He slowly stepped forward
And calmly bowed his head
Since a kid this was his dream
He never knew he'd wind up dead

"Rank, Name and Number"
He answered the questions with pride
His parents didn't approve of this
But he'd already made up his mind

To fight for his country
No matter what the cost
He picked up his pack with a smile
But before he started his life was lost

War is dangerous he never denied
But this was his passion, his life
"The only place reward comes before work is in the dictionary"
He'd serve his people, for freedom he'd fight

His eyes were sore and swollen
His patience was wearing thin
War wasn't supposed to be so evil
It's not meant to be this grim

"Dear Mum, i hope you get this
The post office must be busy i know
But I'm writing just incase
Just incase, Home i cannot go

Tell Dad I'm very sorry for this
But I've been a solider all my life
I've fought every single battle
Saved my country from so much strife

I wish he could be proud of me
Smile because I'm brave
I never meant to cause him such shame
Little children's lives i have to save

I have to go now, Mum
I can hear the enemies fire getting close
It's horrible out here alone
But I've got to go and man my post

Take care and goodnight
I hope you receive my letter
I'll be home in a few weeks Mum
Then our lives will be much better"

Two hours later he was shot
He slowly closed his eyes and down fell a tear
"I fought for my country to my death God,
Keep my family safe now I'm not there"

And with that he was gone
But for freedom he'd sacrifice
Anything that he could give
For you "Solider 105" gave his life.
