The Sound of Your Voice

That night when I was alone
Waiting for you to call
You seemed to know that I needed you
I realized I wasn't forgotten after all.

I smiled at the thought of you
When your name came up on Caller ID
Because just the sound of your voice
Means so much to me.

I can't explain
What I feel in my heart
But when I hear your voice
It's almost like we're not apart.

I can close my eyes
And it's as if you're at my side
And not miles away
You're always there if I need someone in which to confide.

You can tell what's wrong
With only one word into the phone
You can sense my littlest emotion
Whether we're in a group of people or alone.

You know that I love the way you say
"I love you"
And I can feel your pride rise
When I tell you that I do too.

The tone of your voice changes with our surroundings
It's strong and excited when we're on the phone
But then it turns to a whisper, soft and deep
When we're all alone.

I never picked it out
It wasn't a choice
But one thing I love about you
Is the sound of your voice.
