I want to fly

We are all of this world
Our place in space and time
We are unified in our existence
On our fraction of the line
We don’t seem to appreciate it
The fact we are here at all
We haven’t seemed to grasp
That we really are so small

I guess it’s not a concern
For the average common joe
He doesn’t understand
He doesn’t want to know
He’s more concerned with living
Surviving in this world
Deeper questions of reason
He will not unfurl

But why, when and how?
Some of us need a reason
Not just the blind faith
That you’ll find in religion
We need to know how it all began
And how it will end
And where we’re going from here
And how much time will lend

I want to know so much more
I want to explore every sun
I want to understand this world
I want to know everyone
I want to feel the power
I want to taste that high
I want to escape this planet
I want to fly
