Mulatto

by Nicole   Dec 10, 2004

She crumbles to the ground
seeking desperately her true reflection
the one lost in the undecided color
of her own complexion
the broken shards of the mirror
lay scattered around her as
her dreams, ideals and beliefs
disorganized, in chaos and constant agony
What does she wish to seek?
Could it be, perhaps, her own identity?
It lays but on her skin in the cells and melanin
Flesh and blood in an endless battle for dominance
Torn in half and pulled by the forces of society
then placed inside a cell of her own anxiety
She's pushing back the words of her peers
she's blocking out the perplexed expressions and the heartless jeers
mixed into one, she's a common mutt, a traitor of some race
Beat down into nothing, she can't seem to keep a smile on her face
Ebony and ivory came together in perfect harmony
to create the one thing about her that shows
She may be black, she may be white, I guess she'll never know
Mirror whispering the answer so full of know
"Mulatto..."

no matter the color. for ur mind speaks louder than ur body. if only them people that put so much pain on you, would only realize the talent you have. i can't say that enough.
