We were a happy family,
Or so I at least thought.
Despite our ups and downs,
And the fact we sometimes fought.
We pulled together in hard times,
And were bound side by side.
We were together through thick and thin,
United against life’s crazy ride.
But you had to change that,
You had to selfishly walk away
I hate you for walking out,
I hate you more than I can say.
This I still struggle to comprehend,
And the anger writhes around inside.
Why are you acting like a little boy,
Who must run away and hide?
Weren’t you ever taught, dad,
To face you problems like a man, so strong?
Didn’t you ever learn to work things out,
Even when you were in the wrong?
Clearly not, because your bed lies empty,
Empty like our broken hearts.
The pieces that lie on the floor,
That you smashed into a thousand parts.
I sit looking at the walls, and ponder to myself,
Do you know you hurt us? Do even care?
Are you aware we’re worried and confused?
Do you see how you’re being so unfair?
How could you just leave like that?
Just walk out on your kids and wife?
Do you realise that by doing it,
I can see how much we really meant in your life?
But don’t worry coward father of mine,
It’s not as bad as it seems.
I know that we’ll be fine
Even though you trampled all our dreams.
I’m not going to cry,
I’m not going to give you that satisfaction,
Because I have a feeling inside,
That that’s not the right reaction.
I’m going to be strong,
Seeing as how you couldn’t be.
I’m gonna get them through it
And I hope you’ll be able to see:
That we don’t need you at all,
And I’m going to pick those pieces off the floor.
I’m gonna wipe mums tears away,
I’m not going to let her cry anymore.
Coz she deserves better than that,
Actually I think we probably all do.
Dad, I really want you to know,
That we’ll be better of without you.
