I Couldn't Defeat Death Pt. 3

Pt. 3

She stares at me,
First out of fear.
She did not realize
That I was this near.

Her expression calmed,
Her body relaxed.
I guess she realized,
That I was not that bad.

She slowly stood,
Looked around twice,
The ground we stood on
Was covered in ice.

Her lip was bloody,
A bruise forming on her cheek.
This was telling me,
That whoever did this was a freak.

She looked back at me,
Her eyes widening,
I smirked,
My man had come out of hiding.

Looking at my weapon,
Which really was not more
Than a one foot blade on a stick.
It went two feet over my head,
and ended on the floor.

I spun and swung,
Hitting nothing but air.
He would have died quickly,
Alas, death was not fair.

It took my Eliza,
It did not like him.
His life now
was at my whim.

I stared into his eyes,
He stared back,
He was cowering in fear
Cowardice he did not lack.

I grinned with no sanity,
Slamming the butt of my weapon to the ground.
I thanked God
There were no people around.

He took one step back,
And turned to run.
The day I was waiting for
Had finally begun!

I concentrated,
Felt the ground shake.
Then, I remembered
the woman's life was at stake.

I turned my head slowly,
Watching her grasp the wall.
I told her to hang on
So she did not fall.

I told her not to worry
But what she would see ahead
would be anything but normal.
I told her not to fear me or fear the dead.
