Rejection

by ¤©h€€®ƒüll¥♥©¥ñ!c@l¤   Dec 21, 2004

You dress differently
You get treated like a reject
People looking at you
Like you’re a foreign object

When is this world going to change
And be less narrow-minded
Realize people go to the beat of their own drum
I think we have to be reminded

Whispers behind my back
Is all I ever hear
“Is she really wearing that?”
“Wow, you’re really queer…”

I can express myself however I please
Dress in layers with braids in my hair
Fishnets and combat boots
It’s what I like to wear.

I’m not going to change myself
To please society around me
So get over it, I’m different that you
I hope you will agree…

ehh... kinda sucks, oh well

I thought this poem was okay. It doesn't suck, but there are things that could be improved. First off, some of the lines were short enough that some of the rhymes seemed a bit too easy and fake. e.g. reject/object. By the way, the first two lines of the second stanza should be ended with a question mark :-).

You raise some thought good points about the judgment of others when it is simply your intent to be your own person. Good work.
