Feels like falling

by Polly   Dec 21, 2004

I'm walking the edge of the cliff
playing a game with fate
and myself.
Skipping, like a child
knowing I can't fall.
I can never fall.
I won't.
The sky shines pink,
the clouds a soft white.
I feel the wind in my hair,
on my skin, on my lips.
I breath in the smell of the ocean.
I shut my eyes and feel so alive.
So free, So beautiful
as my feet dance on the edge
tempting the sea below
and the sky above.

But then my foot misses the ledge where it should land
and I slip.
I open my eyes, let out a cry
and the sky turns a deep purple
the sea black
as i hurtle towards the world below.
The wind whips me, beats me down
my eyes water
my lungs scream
and I fall.

Every time it goes so well
I sense that it can't last
I know one of these days
I will plummet
and I will fall.
I'll just be skipping like a child
feeling the wind on my skin
and then my foot will slip...
and I will fall.
