X Glen x

You were always on the outside
Looking in
Not many people bothered
To look deeper than skin

And I wish now
That I had really known you
I can not believe you’re gone
I thought we’d all pull through

I was like you in so many ways
An outcast, waiting to be free
Leave school and it’ll be better
It’s not better for you, or even me

It seems so cruel that your life
Was spent being hurt
All the people around you
Treated you like dirt

And I guess I’m lucky
Cos I still can escape
But you barely got out
When you met your fate

And though I didn’t really know you
I cried so hard when I heard you’d died
I felt like we’d all lost that day too
And the agony of it burrowed deep inside

I don’t understand why you had to go
When the people who hurt you are happy
Living their dreams, they’re doing fine
You got taken, just when you thought you were free.

All I can say, and I hope you can hear this
Is I hope you are at peace, Glen
Not even out of your teens, you’re dead
And I don’t know if we’ll ever see you again.
