Yellow Roses

by rachel   Jan 7, 2005

It was a yellow one, this rose I had given you
It was laid in your truck, with other presents too
I had told you I had a surprise, on the seat did they lay
petals and hearts, even the seat had something to say
“I love you” were the words, I set them for you to see
when you saw everything, you said we would always be
You smiled as you looked and picked up that yellow rose
But now as I think back, a fake smile do you suppose?

You moved far away, and didn’t think to bring me with you
Your house is now empty, with nothing left that’s true
I went to that silent house, to see what was left behind
There was nothing left in there, nothing I could find
As I started to leave, I saw that yellow rose I gave
I took it with me, as something I could save
It was always by your bed, on the ceiling above
It was to remind us what we had and of our true love

That yellow rose alone, it held the assurance we would be
Its petals all dried and discolored, with nothing left to see
I kiss its old dead petals and softly talk to the sky
I think of what happened, how everything flew by
That yellow rose you loved, you didn’t take it too
All my love and me, you didn’t take them with you
