Shout Down the Moon [Part 3]

by Unseen Exposure   Jan 10, 2005

Two days later mama called me
"Guess what I've got in store for you"

"Tell me mama, what is it?"

"You won't believe it's true

Rick crashed in to a barn
Somewhere in Idaho
Seeing as how that's close to you
I thought that you should know"

All my voice could whisper
Was, "my God, what has he done?"

"Patty, has he been to see you?"

"No mama, he hasn't come"

I knew I shouldn't have lied
But the words just spilled right out
The truth was, he'd seen me twice
But that's not what my lying was about

"Keep my grandson in close proximity
I don't want that man to see
The child he created with you
He doesn't deserve Willie"

"Mama, I've got to go
We've got a gig in half an hour
I'm not nearly ready
I haven't even had a shower"

I had to catch my breath
I knew he was sorry for what he'd done
But I knew I had to hurry
I knew I had to run

Jonathan was reading his jazz book
When we pulled off the road to eat
I told him we'd be quick
And I tried to be discreet

But he was annoyed with me again
I had taken much too long
He told me "I don't know anything
And in his band, I don't belong"

I picked up a magazine
And ignored what he had to say
But somehow I was comforted
In a strange, and unique way

We got back on the road
Neither of us said anything at all
Jonathan was a good guy
And I was starting to fall..

I think it's so unique and clever of you to be writing this beautiful story through a set of poems! You did a lovely job with the descriptions and your technique portraying her emotions was also done well. I got so excited at this stance,
"We got back on the road
Neither of us said anything at all
    Jonathan was a good guy
And I was starting to fall.. "
I didn't know she actually fell in love with him, I'm so excited to see what happens next!
    Well done (again)
