Acceptance

Have you looked in the mirror?
You have, really?
What do you see?

You can't be that girl,
You say,
She's nothing like me.

Her eyes are dark,
They almost match the moonless sky,
Mine are much brighter.

She's so thin,
You can almost see her ribs,
I only wish I was that thin.

Her hairs so stringy and greasy,
Has she ever heard of shampoo?
My hairs so much nicer.

And look at that smile, that pitiful smile,
It's so fake; you can tell she's lying,
My smiles always sincere.

So you look at this girl,
You smile and think that she's nothing like you,
You continue to criticize, totally unaware.

You smile and strike a pose,
And see this girl follow your lead,
And almost yell in frustration.

This girls not you,
You're nothing alike,
Why is she acting like you're living her life?

Your anger builds up,
You're limbs start to shake,
You look to the girl with unbounded fury.

As she looks back at you, your resistance soars,
You've gone past the limit; she's taken you there,
The mirror falls from your dresser, pieces at a time.

You look at the empty frame, finally satisfied,
You're rid of that girl; she'll copy no more,
It almost makes the pain forgettable

You're hands bleeding,
Crimson red drips to the ground,
But you don't try to stop it.

You stare at the puddle that's forming,
Getting bigger with each passing moment,
And suddenly nothing matters.

The remnants of the mirror shine on the floor,
And the girl's dark eyes stare up from the ground,
They're sad and alone.

The tears start to form; they roll down your face,
You let them fall,
It's all come together, things now make sense,

Have you looked in the mirror?
You have, really?
What do you see?

You breathe deep and say,
I see a girl so lonely her eyes became dark,
I see a girl so sad she's forgotten to eat.
I see a girl who's lost the will to care,
I see a girl who's true smile is now lost.
But the most disturbing thing that I see,
That girl in the mirror,
That girl is me.
