City.

Looking over the city that I have lived in all my life
All the areas where things are kept safe with a knife
The parks that are meant to be free and full of happiness
But are deserted with one drunk sitting there in a mess
No young children playing together any longer
The gangs and the fear is getting stronger and stronger
The rubbish dumped, the flats building up and up
The way people look down and are never seen close-up
Then the twinkling lights of the main city are seen
Something that this place could have been
But nothing draws me to them big lights and big suits
I prefer it here, lonely and cold, I know all the ways and the routes
Just because I don’t feel safe out alone at night
Doesn’t mean this neighbourhood isn’t alright
There’s the school kids, the same people walking the same way
The paths they take, the paths they cross, same every day
Don’t take me from my home, don’t make me go inside
I’ll be fine, I’ll be more than that, I need to roam the streets with pride
