Dreams of Tomorrow

“Pump your legs!”
You will soar
Almost like your touching the sky
Higher, Higher
On that old wooden swing
Worn by so much use

The little girl soars in the air
Back and forth, over and over
Afraid to let go of the rope
That she gripped so dearly
And jump towards the ground
Covered with countless leaves

Instead she keeps touching
With her pink sneakers
That blue piece of sky
Filled with hope, happiness
Dreams of the future
Dreams of tomorrow

Now the girl, much wiser
And grown with age
Reflects on those years
The petty fears, the tight grip
On that same swing
She swings gently, to and fro

Now the rope is slipping
Between her fingers
Like her life has lately
Gray clouds float above
What hope? What happiness?
What dreams?

What if there is no tomorrow?
