Narcissus

by Gerard Kurt   Feb 11, 2005

As I walked beside a placid lake,
I spotted a beauty, I cannot believe.
What my eyes saw, I cannot take.
For the time of the gods, now was relived.

Then I stepped back to avoid his stare.
For I should avert his tempting eyes.
His gorgeous, right, I can't compare.
For beside this man, my beauty dies.

Oh why, oh why, does such beauty exist?
It makes me sick, it shames my pride.
And why, oh why, can't I resist?
This powerful urge to be his bride.

I should have left, I shouldn't stay.
But before I'll leave, I'll glance once more.
Then after that, I'll go without delay.
Away from that lake, where beauty's galore.

I watched that man, for one last time.
I observed his face, as he looked at mine.
Then I stepped back and walked away.
Though I wish to linger, I cannot stay.

But halfway down, I realized.
That I cant get rid, of he who mesmerized.
For that elegant face, I thought was divine,
Is the one I carry, for it is mine.
