Silence Overdue

It’s been a long time and I wish that you knew.
But forever I’ll sit in silence overdue.
A constant reminded of smiles long past.
It was destined to begin but never made to last.
A cry in the night means sun when you wake.
I take what I give and I give what I take.
Simply close your eyes and that’s when you’ll know.
I’m still always there, since there’s nowhere to go.
In the black of the night you’ll hear a small laugh.
It’s just me and my conscience, and it’s as simple as that.
It was clear for a moment but we lost it somewhere.
In the heat of the night we found only despair.
But we still trudge on through the mud and the pain.
We thought it was over but it’s still not the same.
A memory faded leaving space for a thought.
The sun promised to rise but I guess it forgot.
As the midnight drags on we know that it’s lost.
But we give up too because we couldn’t cover the cost.
Lock it all up and just throw it away.
The moon and the stars won’t come out to play.
It’s over and done with, but that’s something we do.
