The Price We Pay

by ** JeNa **   Mar 3, 2005

What happened to this friendship?
Where did it go?
Was it all my fault?
I should have known.

When troubles start to arise,
and people say things they regret.
That’s when bad things happen,
and they lose people they can’t forget.

You remember the good times
when nothing went wrong,
but look at it now,
you thought it would be lifelong.

But I guess sometimes we change,
and hurt those special few,
that mean so much to us,
and wish it wasn’t true.

They start to say “ I hate you”
or “I don’t even care”,
but even when they say that
deep inside there is still something there.

Now everything is lost,
and you can’t get it back.
You wish you never said those things.
Now there’s something in life you lack.

It’s the comfort of having that friend.
The one who was always there.
Who held you when you were scared,
and said there was nothing to fear.

We lose many friends
because the stuff we do or say,
We should have never done that,
now this is the price we pay.

I thought that it flowed nicely, but sometimes it felt as though the rhyme was forced. Over all good job. Keep writing!
