YOU AND ME

by E SELEITHIA WOODS   Aug 28, 2003

Picture us rocking on the front porch
Sipping on sweet tea,
Swatting away fire flies
Just loneliness and me.
We'll talk about the good ole days
When we first became good friends.
How we used to play hide and seek
And loneliness would always win.
You used to watch and laugh at me
Cause love wouldn't stick around.
But rest assured, you'd say, "My friend,
I will never let you down."
"You're just unable to be loved,"
Loneliness would say.
We'll be the best of friends you and I.
I will never go astray."
Just when I think I've lost you for good
You'd reappear again
To chase away love and say, "Remember me,
Your old friend?"
Happiness found me a couple of times and
Tried to lure me away.
You'd say, "Oh no you don't, so stop right there.
Nothing gold can stay."
So, here we are rocking on the porch
Swatting flies and memories.
Still together as the best of friends,
Loneliness and Me.
