Voices Of The Night

by Tarikins   Apr 13, 2005

A cold breeze ruffling the curtains,
I woke with a start.
And in the night I hear the voices say,
"It is time, with this world you shall part."

I exhale and see my breath disappear into the dark,
"Come my dear, step into the light."
Pulling the covers off my cold body,
I step into the night.

Standing at the edge of the balcony,
I see the welcoming light down below.
"Come my dear, one more step and you're here."
My heart beats and I hear the blood flow.

I put my hands on the rails and look down,
The beautiful light calling for me to follow.
The breeze hits my skin and I cannot feel it,
My body going numb, cold, dark, and hollow.

I pull up my night dress and swing my legs over the balcony side,
Holding onto the rails and take one last look.
Letting go, I fall towards the light,
Fading away with the last breath I took.
