Inimical Dreams

by Eden   Apr 19, 2005

Creatures chasing me around, I'm running so far away.
Lost as sunken ships in the sea, I cannot see my way.
Dark...it is so dark right now, I can't see my hands.
I feel my world around me fade, but my terror, here, still stands.

I open my eyes; it was only a dream.
Confused and still riddled with fear.
I know I am safe since it was all fake,
But it's still dark in my room.

Then, so fast, a ghoulish hand
Comes through my wall so deadly.
It grabs my throat and squeezes tight...
Tears not able to come, cause of fright.
As I die, my eyes open
A dream within a dream...
Is this reality or not?
I just don't know!

The ghost's laughter has faded now,
As my hands tenderly reach up to my throat
Sweet bed of calm reality,
Help me rest serenely.

But as my eyes close to a distant land,
Above my bed, a fiery hand!
It comes upon me, searing flesh.
I thought I was no longer dreaming!

Now I don't know if I'm dreaming anymore. I'm so confused and bereft of friendship and love.
As I feel the fire burn into my heart, blood covers my bed. I'm waiting through the pain, ready to wake up. I start to scream in agony. "I must wake up!", I scream. I must! I must! I must!

But never did I wake from this nightmare...for it was my reality and not a dream.
