If only

by Lyudmila   Apr 27, 2005

I think I’ll be happy for today
And walk with a smile on my face
I think I’ll forget about yesterday
And not walk in a shadowed place

If I can be alive for an hour or two
And remember what a laugh feels like
I’ll forget about all that’s left to do
And not dread the coming of the night

I’d like to try to be just a girl
Instead of the young woman with all the worry
Just stand and watch the path unfurl
And traipse along without a hurry

To forget about the tears I’ve spilt
And the scars upon my jaded heart
To earn a prize free of baggage guilt
And not fear the end before I start

If I could be happy for a time
And forget the negative of before
I wouldn’t be able to write this rhyme
Nor be prepared to handle more
