Let me be Five

by Lyudmila   Apr 27, 2005

Let me be five
Forget about my size
Forget about my age
I've got to let out this rage
Got to get out of this cage
These bars and these walls
These endless halls
Somebody hear my call

Let me be five
Make a pretend cave and hide
Let me run around outside
Give me space
Get me out of the rat race
Let me have my mommy
Lord knows I want my daddy
Let me turn back the clock
Stop the tic and the toc
Freeze-frame on a sunny day
Back at home--let me stay
Just that way
Free and easy, standing in
Fields cool and breezy,
Air floating with cottony seeds, see
This is just what I need.

Let me be five
Let me curl up and cry
In my mommy's tender arms
Safe and warm, free from harm
Melt at my tears
Someone calm all these fears
Tell me Daddy's still here
That he loves me so dearly
And he'll always be near

Let me be five
Make me feel like I'm alive, and
Nobody's gonna hurt me
Because I'm invincible; see,
Then I can be happy, it's
All about flowers, sunshine and puppies
The simple joys of childhood life
Not even a concept of pain or strife

Let me be five
Because...
I never really was.
