The Perfect Secret

by foreverhappy   Apr 28, 2005

She was perfect
It had seemed
She was every girl's nightmare
And every Guy's dream

She was always happy
We had believed
But there was something about her
That no one could see

She was so fake
And she knew this too
But she couldn't explain
What she was going through

Everyone expected her
To be a certain way
She did what was expected
But at night she'd pray

"If there is a God
Please make the pain stop
I can't take much more
I'll give you everything I've got"

In the morning when she woke up
Realizing she was still alive
She'd cut herself
Hoping she would die

That was her secret
The one no one knew
She cut more and more
As the pain grew

She felt so alone
Although she had many friends
But none of them knew how much
She wanted her life to end

The pain was to much
For her to handle herself
So she started a journal
That she hid on her shelf

Every day she wrote
About the pain inside
And how sorry she was
For all the times she lied

One day she decided
There was only one way to stop the pain
She didn't care anymore
If they called her insane

A few nights later
She decided the night was right
In exactly 20 minutes
She would take her own life

She wrote one last entry
Saying her goodbyes
Explaining this was the only way
And many times did she apologize

She signed the note
And dried her tears
This is what she had wanted
For all the past years

She put the gun to her head
And for the first time she truly smiled
And whispered
The pain will be over in a little while

She whispered goodbye
And shot the gun
She fell over on her bed
And with her last breath whispered, Finally I've won

She left all her family
And her friends too
All the people that cared
But really had no clue

All of us feel guilty
Because we could've known
We could've gotten her help
Now her future is unknown

Today we buried a daughter,
And a friend to all
Tonight in our homes
Millions of tears will fall

As we remember the girl
Who we believed to be happy
But truly felt trapped
And no one could see

We'll remember the good times
And try to learn from this
Even those who appear to be happy
Could be hiding something we might miss

Years may pass
Before we ever move on
But in our hearts
She'll never truly be gone
