*Second Grade Letter*

by little birdy   May 6, 2005

They grew together every day
And made each other smile
They were so young, they never knew
What love was, for a while

It started with a simple note
A question, "yes or no?"
He put a check right by the box
And let his feelings show

And then the older that they got
Their lives grew only closer
Never could they be apart
He couldn't live without her

Though then one day they went apart
The past shattered into pieces
Yet still it haunted both of them
All of their hope now decreases

They finally found themselves to let go
Of something that they once had
And guessing their passion just wasn't enough
Was driving both of them mad...

To him all the days became to be months
And months came to feel like the years
Both of them missing each other so much
They never saw each other's tears

The time past them by, and left them behind
While neither had moved ways along
She'd cry every night while listening to
The radio and what was their song

He finally gave up on all that he had
And started to move his life on
Though she still was hanging on something that she
Was not willing to give, see it gone

When she'd finally look, when he moved with his life
She decided to let go of him
She made herself crazy by drinking until
The night when her life was too dim

She drunk all the memories slowly away
And it finally came to its ending
He found her laying pure empty inside
And that's when he finished pretending

He opened the letter from their second grade
And held it from a long time ago
He died that same night with her in his arms
And the note that his hands have let go

The years came around, and both of them lost
Along with the start, from a guess
A note saying "do you love me or not?"
And a box with a check by the "yes"

This one really touched me. My love used to quote the Check Yes or No song by George Straight, so now my tears flow again.
