The choice.

by Nicole   May 6, 2005

I had the choice of freedom,
I could've soared like a bird,
content with like as it passed me,
as if the clouds had captured all the night's lucky stars
and all that surrounds me
is nothing but the tranquility of greens, pinks & blues.
There are no limits as I soar,
and to the ends of the earth, I would.

I had the choice of happiness,
overwhelmingly guaranteed.
And as smiles cast upon the faces of my lovely ones,
mine shines the brightest.
I'll greet with vehemence,
and beam with pride.
As each day passes,
leaving me looking back
yet looking ahead
with beautiful hopes and dreams.

I had the choice of insouciance.
To be unperturbed by the damaged world,
unflinchingly nonchalant to judgment,
head up high,
dignified,
and unabashedly looking life in the eye
familiarly with no such worries
and nothing but my own space
my own time
my own life.

Then,
I had the choice of loving you
where i would await rejection
yet hope for love in return
cry night after night
wondering why i haven't heard from you
and wander alone
with you, forever on my mind
put first in every single thing I do
my heart could shatter
I could break down
slowly, this would kill me
and soon, i would die
but still you wouldn't care
and wouldn't be by my side
so for all I've done
I ask for nothing in return
just love
but I don't suppose I'd get that either.
